What is Remote Live View Shooting? You can control your camera remotely from EOS Utility and shoot still images from your computer screen.
Also, the shot images are saved directly on your computer and you can recheck them using the linked software Digital Photo Professional version 4.x (hereinafter DPP).
After shooting a movie, you can download the image data from the camera's memory card to a computer and save them in a selected folder.

This page describes how to shoot still photos and movies remotely using the Remote Live View function in default settings.
For details on how to change settings for Live View shooting, please refer to the Software Instruction Manuals (can be downloaded from the Canon Web site).

In some steps below, explanations are given with illustrations for both EOS 77D and EOS Rebel T7i/EOS 800D (EOS 77D on the left, and EOS Rebel T7i/EOS 800D on the right).
Preparing for Live View Shooting 1. Connect your camera and computer, and then turn the cameraâs power switch to < ON >.
2. Set the lensâs focus mode switch to < AF >.

3. Once EOS Utility starts, click [Remote shooting].
4. The capture window appears.
Click or right-click the setting item (  ) and select the setting (*1, *2). *1: You can also select and adjust each of the displayed settings with the scroll-wheel on your mouse. You cannot use the scroll-wheel in the mirror lockup menu or under [Image saving location].
*2: You can click the Exposure level/AEB level item and perform AEB setting using the <shift> key + scroll-wheel.
IMPORTANT
You cannot perform RAW processing. If you connect the camera to your computer during in-camera RAW processing, the camera and computer will connect after the processing is finished.
NOTE
- The settings that cannot be set in the capture window can be set by operating the camera.
- Self-timer shooting is possible.
- You can also use mirror lockup with remote shooting. (Mirror lockup is not possible during Remote Live View shooting.)
- Mirror lockup settings are available when the camera mode is P, Tv, Av or M.

Shooting Still Photos 5. Once you have completed steps 1 - 4, set the Live View function in the capture window.
Press ( ) to display the [Set-up menu], then click [Live View/Movie func. set.] (  ).
6. The [Live View/Movie func. set.] window appears. Select [Enable] ( ) for [LV func. setting], then click [OK] ( ).
7. Click the [Live View shoot.] button.
NOTE
- You can shoot by operating the capture window, even if the [Remote Live View window] is not displayed.
- During mirror lockup, the mirror lockup icon blinks.
8. The [Remote Live View window] appears, so drag the enlargement display frame ( ) to move it to the position where you want to focus.
9. Click the [ON] button on the [Focus] list box.
- AF is executed.
- When focus is achieved, the camera makes a beeping sound and the AF point turns green.
- If focus is not achieved, the AF point turns red.
10. When focus is achieved and the camera is ready for shooting, click the camera release button to shoot.
11. The shot image is transferred to your computer and displayed in the [Quick Preview] window.
- Then, DPP starts up automatically on computers with DPP installed.

Shooting Movies 5. Once you have proceeded up to step 4, click [  ].
- The [Remote Live View window] appears.
IMPORTANT
You cannot operate the camera when the [ ] button is clicked. To operate the camera, click the [ ] button again or close the [Remote Live View window].
6. Set the movie functions on the capture window.
Click ( ) to display the [Set-up menu], and then click [Live View/Movie func. set.] ( ).
7. The [Live View/Movie func. set.] window appears, so select the [Movie rec. size] from the list box ( ), and then click [OK] ( ).
8. In the [Remote Live View window] drag the enlargement display frame ( ) to move it to the position where you want to focus.
9. Click [ON] in the [Focus] window.
- AF is executed.
- When focus is achieved, the camera makes a beeping sound and the AF point turns green.
- If focus is not achieved, the AF point turns red.
10. Click the [  ] button and begin shooting.
- At the bottom left of the [Remote Live View window], a [
 ] icon and the recording time are displayed.
- Click the [ ] button again to end shooting.
11. When the [Remote Live View window] closes, the following message appears if some movie files remain to be downloaded to your computer, so click the [Download] button.
12. The file names of the movie files shot in movie mode appear in a list.
After specifying [Destination Folder] and [File Name], click the [Download] button in the window, and movie files will be downloaded from the cameraâs memory card to your computer.
Movie files having a check mark removed from its file name are not downloaded. When downloading movie files to your computer afterwards from the cameraâs memory card, use the method described in the Software Instruction Manuals.
