Description
This article explains how you can set up the fax capability of your MX490 Series printer with Easy setup.
Solution
To set up the fax capability of your PIXMA MX490 Series printer using Easy setup, follow the steps below.
- With the printer powered on, press the Setup
button.
- In the Setup menu, press the right arrow
until Fax settings appears on the LCD. Press OK.
- In the Fax settings menu, press OK on Easy setup.
- In the Easy setup menu, press OK on Start setup.
- The message Connect your Tel socket and the LINE jack on the device's rear side will scroll across the LCD. Connect a telephone line cable into a telephone jack at the wall. Connect the other end of that cable into the LINE jack on the back of the printer. Click here to see the position of the LINE jack.
After connecting the telephone line cable, press OK.
- The message Connect a telephone to the device's EXT port will scroll across the LCD. Connect a telephone (or a telephone / answering machine combination device) into the EXT. jack on the back of the printer. Click here to see the position of the EXT. jack.
- The message Start the telephone line connection test will scroll across the LCD. Press OK. The machine will attempt to pick up the line.
If the connection test fails, check that the telephone line cables are plugged in correctly and try again.
- After the test has finished, Check the Easy setup results will scroll across the LCD. Press OK.
- Use of Tel line will appear on the LCD. Use the left
or right arrows to choose Sharing FAX/voice or FAX only. Select the desired option and press OK.
- The Receive mode and Telephone line type will appear on the LCD. These will cycle back and forth, along with a message that says Press OK to apply.
If Sharing FAX/voice was chosen for Use of Tel line, the Receive mode will be Tel Priority mode and the Telephone line type will be either Tone or Pulse.
If FAX only was chosen for Use of Tel line, the Receive mode will be Fax only mode and the Telephone line type will be either Tone or Pulse.
Press OK.
The fax capability of your MX490 Series printer is now ready for use.
