Unable to scan through USB connection after windows 10 update (MF Scan Utility Models)

Description

If you are unable to scan via a USB connection after upgrading to the latest version of Windows 10 or receiving an update, please follow the instructions below. Please retain these instructions for later updates to Windows 10.

Solution

Part 1. Uninstalling the MF Drivers.
Part 2. Downloading and installing the latest drivers.
Part 3. Downloading and installing the patch file.


Before doing anything please power off the printer using the main power switch.

Part 1 - Uninstalling the MF Drivers

1. Log on to the computer with an administrator account.

2. Display [Programs and Features].
  1. Type "Programs" in the search box at the bottom left and click [Add or remove programs].
  2. Click [Programs and Features] at the top right of the App & features Window.

3. Select the MF Drivers that you want to uninstall, and click [Uninstall/Change].

The un installer starts.


4. Click [Delete].


5. Click [Yes].


The uninstall starts.


Part 2 - Downloading and installing the latest drivers 

1. Visit http://consumer.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer

2. Type your model name into the search box and select it from the list that appears. 



3. Click the 'GO' button to get to the Drivers & Downloads page for your model.


4. From the Drivers & Downloads Tab, Select your Operating System and Version from the provided drop-down menu.



5. The most common driver to use will be listed in the Recommended Section.  Click [SELECT] next to the driver you need as shown in the illustration above and then click [DOWNLOAD].


6. Click [Run] to begin downloading and installing the driver software.


7.  Click [RUN] to install the software.



8.  Click [Next] on the Welcome to the Setup Wizard for the MF Drivers.



9.  Click [Yes] on the License Agreement.



10.  Select USB Connection.




11.  When the screen below appears, power on the unit.



Part 3 - Downloading and Installing the Patch

1. Visit http://consumer.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer

2. Type your model name into the search box and select it from the list that appears. 



3. Click the 'GO' button to get to the Drivers & Downloads page for your model.

4. Under [Recommended Downloads] click Select next to the file named [Windows 32-bit & 64-bit] Patch for Network Scan, USB Scan.

4. Click download.

 

You may run the file or download the file.
If you click [Run].
  1. If the User Account Control prompt is displayed, click [Yes], and then click [Run] on the subsequent Security Alert screen.
  2. When the UpdateProgram2016002 screen is displayed, click [OK].
If you click [Save]
  1. Save the file to an appropriate location, and then double-click the file (double-clicking the file will create a new folder in the same location).
  2. If the User Account Control prompt is displayed, click [Yes].
  3. When the UpdateProgram2016002 screen is displayed, click [OK].
Reboot the computer and retry scanning


STOP! - Please test scanning before re-installing the MF Scan Utility, in most cases this step is not necessary!

Uninstalling the MF Scan Utility

1. Log on to the computer with an administrator account.

2. Display [Programs and Features].

3. Select the [Canon MF Scan Utility], and click [Uninstall/Change].


The un installer starts.

4. Click [Yes].



5. Click [OK].



Installing the MF Scan Utility

1. Log on to the computer with an administrator account.

2. Unzip the downloaded file, and click the [Setup] file.

3. Click [Next].



4. Read the License Agreement, and click [Yes] to agree.


5. Click [Complete].
