Description

This article provides instructions on how to setup your imageCLASS MF8280Cw and imageCLASS MF8580Cdw printers to do wireless printing and scanning.  It is broken down into four parts. 

Part 1 How to setup your printer. 
Part 2 How to download and setup the software on your computer. 
Part 3 How to setup the printer driver on your computer.
Part 4 How to setup the scanner driver on your computer.



 

Solution

Part 1:  Setting Up the Printer

Part 2:  Downloading and Installing the Computer Software

Once your printer has been setup follow the instructions below for downloading and installing your printer, scanner, and fax driver depending on which model you have.  In the illustrations below we used the imageCLASS D1550 and OS X 10.12. The screens may vary somewhat based on your operating system selection and the browser you use.  To download drivers and software for your device, please follow the instructions below:

1. Visit http://consumer.usa.canon.com/cusa/support/consumer

2. Type your model name into the search box and select it from the list that appears. 



3. Click the 'GO' button to get to the Drivers & Downloads page for your model.

4. From the Drivers & Downloads Tab, Select your Operating System from the provided drop-down menu.  The most common drivers to use will be listed in the Recommended Section.  Click [SELECT] next to the printer driver and then click [DOWNLOAD].  Repeat this step for the scanner driver also.




5. The file will start to download.



6. Once the files have completed downloading click on your download folder to open it and select the first file you downloaded which should be the printer driver.

 


7.  You will see two files.  Click the file titled MF_Printer_Installer.




8.  Click [Continue] on the Welcome to the Canon MF Printer Driver Installer screen.





9.  Click [Continue] on the Software License Agreement.



10.  Click on the [Agree] button to agree to the license and continue installation.



11.  Click [Install] to start the installation.




12.  Enter your User Name and Password if required and then click [Install Software].



13.  Once the software was installed successfully click [Close].




14.  You can either [Keep] the downloaded file or [Move to Trash].  It is no longer needed at this point.



15.  Repeat Steps 6 through 14 to install the scanner driver downloaded in Step 4.


Part 3:  Setting Up the Printer Driver.

1.  Open your System Preferences folder and click on [Printers & Scanners] icon.



2.  Click on the [+] sign in the lower left corner ot the screen to add a printer.



3..  Click on the Add Printer or Scanner link.  If you click on the other link at this point it may not load the Canon driver.



4..  Now select your printer.



5.  When you select your printer the Name and Use lines at the bottom should automatically fill in.  Make sure the Use line does not say AirPrint.  If it does please change it to the name of your printer.  Now click [Add]. 



6.  You should now be able to see your printer in the Printers & Scanners screen.



Part 4: Setting Up the Scanner Driver.

Note:
  The illustrations show the MF810/MF820.  Substitute or choice your model where appropriate.

1.  Open your Applications Folder and look for the Canon MF Utilities Folder.  In this folder you will find the Canon MF Scan Utility.app and the MF Toolbox.app.  The
imageCLASS MF8280Cw and imageCLASS MF8580Cdw both use the MF Toolbox.app.



2.  Open the application.  Click [ MF Toolbox] in the upper left corner and select [Network Scanner Settings].



3.  On the Network Scanner screen click the [+] sign in the lower left corner.  On the next screen select your printer model and click [Add].




4.  On the MF Toolbox - Scan Function screen you should see your model listed.


Congratulations, your drivers are installed and you should be able to print and scan wirelessly now depending on your model.
