Troubleshoot Windows 8 computer not recognizing the camera - EOS Utility Ver.3.x

Solution

If the camera is not recognized by Windows 8, there are a few things to check.

Check for hardware issues

  • Turn on the camera.
  • USB ports and cables can be damaged. Try switching the USB cable to another port on the computer.
  • Try a different USB cable.

Fix device driver issue

  1. Select Start -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound.
  2. Select Device Manager.
  3. Select Portable Devices. If portable devices does not appear in Device Manager, you should reinstall the EOS Utility software.
  4. Right-click your camera name and select Uninstall.
  5. Select OK.
  6. Select the scan for hardware changes icon  near the top of the window.
  7. EOS Utility Ver.3.x starts. If it doesn't start automatically, click Start -> All Apps -> EOS Utility

Update EOS Utility software

  1. Turn off your camera.
  2. Go to the Drivers & Downloads page.
  3. Your computer's operating system should be preselected in the operating system drop-down. If not, select it.
  4. Download and install the EOS Utility.
  5. Turn on your camera. A notification appears in the taskbar with the camera name when the camera is recognized.
