Uninstall and reinstall Digital Photo Professional on Windows 7

Learn how to uninstall and reinstall Digital Photo Professional on your Windows 7 computer when the program is no longer working properly.

Solution

Occasionally, you may find Digital Photo Professional doesn't run as well as it used to. You can delete it and then reinstall it to solve the problem.

Uninstall Digital Photo Professional Utility Ver.3.x

  1. Select Start -> All Programs.
  2. Select Canon Utilities -> Digital Photo Professional -> Digital Photo Professional Uninstall
  3. If you get a message asking if you are sure, select OK.
  4. Select OK after uninstallation completes successfully.
  5. Restart the computer.

Using Control Panel
Sometimes the unistallation program doesn't work. If that happens, you can accomplish the task with Windows Control Panel.
  1. Select Start -> Control Panel.
  2. Select Uninstall a program.
  3. Select Digital Photo Professional, and then click Uninstall/Change.
  4. Select OK.
  5. Select OK after uninstallation completes successfully.
  6. Restart the computer. 

Install Canon software

Download the latest software from Drivers & Downloads or use the EOS Digital Solution Disk that came with your camera. If the CD-ROM is version 21 or earlier, it is not compatible with Windows 7 so you need to download the software.
  1. Locate the installation file you downloaded from the Canon website or insert the CD-ROM.
  2. You may need to start the installation by double-clicking the .exe or by Selecting the optical drive and launching the installation file.
  3. Follow the prompts to choose your region, country, language, and software to install.
  4. Select Custom Installation.
  5. Close any other applications, and then select OK.
  6. In the Software to be installed dialog, select Digital Photo Professional.
  7. Select Next.
  8. Select Install.
  9. Select Yes to agree to the license agreement.
  10. Some operating systems ask if the Canon software should be allowed to make changes to your computer. Select Yes.
  11. The installation begins and a screen displays the progress. You may be asked to agree to the installation of one or more plug-in applications. If so, select Yes.
  12. Select Next once installation is complete.
  13. Choose to register for Canon iMAGE GATEWAY now or later.
    • Yes - Follow the instructions to complete registration.
    • No - Select Next and then OK.
  14. Select Finish.
  15. If prompted, select Restart.
