Your printer can be connected to a router via ethernet.  Follow the steps below to configure your printer for use via ethernet.

Connect the printer to a router with an ethernet cable.

Connect your printer to a router with an ethernet cable.  Remove the cap (1) from the ethernet port (2) on the back of the printer.  Then, connect one end of the ethernet cable into the printer.  Connect the other end of the cable into your router.


 

Enable the Wired LAN connection on the printer.

1. Press the HOME button (A) on the printer.

   If an error screen is displayed, tap OK, then press the HOME button.

   

2. Flick the screen left or right, then tap LAN settings.

   

3. Tap Change LAN.

   

4. Tap Activate wired LAN.

   
   
   The ethernet connection between the printer and the router is now active.
    

Run the Setup Program

1. Access the Setup page for your printer (MB2720 / MB5120 / MB5420), read the information then click the Download button to download the setup file.
    
2. After the file has downloaded, double-click the downloaded .dmg file. Double-click the Setup icon when the Canon_IJ window opens.
    
3. Click Next on the first screen.
   
   
    
4. A prompt will appear indicating that the setup program is trying to install a helper tool.  Enter your user account name and password for your Mac.  Then, click Install Helper.
   
   
    
5. Click Start Setup.
   
   
   
   The installer program will obtain information on the latest drivers and software available for your printer.  This may take a few minutes depending on the speed of your internet connection.
   
   
    
6. Continue to follow on-screen instructions.
   
   Select your place of residence.  Then, click Next.
   
   
   
   Be sure to select Yes on the License Agreement in order to continue.
   
   
   
   When the Extended Survey Program window appears, read through the information pertaining to this program.  Then, click on Do not agree or Agree.  Note that participating in this program is optional.  If you choose not to participate in this program, it will not affect your ability to use the printer.
   
   
    
7. The setup program will check the printer status.
   
   
   
   On the Select Connection Method screen select Wired LAN Connection and click Next.
   
   
   
   On the Check Power screen, make sure that the printer is powered on.  Then, click Next.
   
   
   
   The setup program will search for the printer on the network.
   
   
    
8. When the Printers on Network List screen appears, select the printer to be used (verify by Serial Number*) and click Next.
   
   *Only the last 5 digits will be displayed
   
   
    
9. The drivers for your printer will start downloading.  This may take several minutes, depending on the speed of your internet connection.
   
   
   
   After the drivers have finished downloading, they will be installed to your computer.  This may take a few minutes, depending on the speed of your computer.
   
   
   
   After the drivers have finished installing, the setup program will process for a few moments.
   
   
    
10. Click Add Printer on the Add Printer screen.
    
    
    
    Note that this will open a page in your web browser (Safari by default) with instructions on what to do next.
     
11. On the Add screen, select the MB**** series printer with Bonjour Multifunction listed in the Kind column (**** represents the MAXIFY model number). Select the Canon MB**** series in the Use: dropdown. Click Add.
    
    
     
12. After the printer has been added, the Add screen will close.  Close or hide / minimize your web browser to return to the Add Printer screen.
     
13. Click Next on the Add Printer screen.
    
    
     
14. Click Next on the Test Print Window, then click Next on the Setup Complete screen.
    
    
    
    
     
15. On the Software List, select any optional software to install. Click Next.
    
    
     
16. If you have chosen to install any additional software, it will be downloaded to your computer.  It will then be installed.
    
    
    
    This process may take a few minutes, depending on the speed of your internet connection and your computer.
     
17. Skip or complete the User Registration. Follow all instructions if completing the registration.
     
18. Exit the setup.
