Connect a PIXMA MX922 Printer to a Wireless Network With a Windows PC

Learn how to download and install the drivers and software for your PIXMA MX922 printer to your Windows PC, and connect it to your wireless network.



 

Solution

If your Windows® PC doesn't have a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive, you can download the drivers and software from the Canon USA website to set up the computer to work wirelessly with your PIXMA MX922 printer. 

First,  prepare the printer for connection.  Then, download the necessary drivers and software for your Windows PC to work with the printer.
 

Before you begin

 If your PIXMA MX922 is already connected to your wireless network, skip ahead to the instructions on downloading and installing the necessary software to get your PC to communicate with the printer.
 

Prepare the printer for connection

  1. Press the Menu button on the printer.
     
  2. Use the arrow keys located to the right of the display to highlight WLAN setup.  Then, press OK.

  3. The printer will begin to search for nearby networks.

  4. When the following screen appears, Standard setup it highlighted by default.  Press OK.

     If a WPS-enabled wireless router is nearby, a message will appear on the screen telling you to press the WPS button on the router, then the OK button on the printer.  If you don't want to connect to that WPS-enabled

    router, press the Stop button on the printer to bypass this message.
     
  5. The printer will search for nearby networks.  After it has finished searching, a list of nearby networks will appear on the screen.  Use the up and down arrow keys to select your network from the list.  Once you have highlighted

    your network, press OK.

  6. If your wireless router has a password, the Enter passphrase screen will appear

  7. Press OK to proceed to the character entry screen.

     If your wireless network does NOT have a password, the printer will attempt to connect to the network automatically.  When it connects, press OK.
       
  8. On the character entry screen, use the arrow keys and the OK button to enter the characters for your wireless network's password.

     By default, lower case letters will be on the screen.  If you need to switch to upper case letters or numbers and symbols, press the middle Function button below the screen.

  • Pressing the middle Function button (below Aa1) switches the character set to upper case letters.

  • Pressing the middle Function button a second time will change over to numbers and symbols.

  • If you make a mistake entering the password, you can press the right Function button (below Del. character) to delete the incorrect characters.

  1. After you enter the password, press the left Function button (under Done).

  2. You'll return to the Enter passphrase screen.  You'll see the password you entered on the screen. 

    If you need to make any corrections to the password, press OK and you'll be able to make any corrections needed.  

    If no corrections are needed, press the left Function key (under End setup).

  3. The printer will attempt to connect to the network.

  4. When the printer connects to the network, press OK.

  5. If the printer fails to connect to the wireless network:

  • Press OK and verify that the password you have entered is correct.  

  • Make any changes if necessary.

  • If the password is correct, try unplugging the router for 15 seconds.  Plug it back in.  After it re-initializes, try to connect the printer to the network again.


Download and Install the Software


After your printer connects to the network, download and install the drivers and software.  Follow these steps.
  1. Select here to go to the PIXMA MX922 support page.  The version of Windows installed on your computer will be automatically detected. 

    If the website doesn't detect which version is installed on your computer, you can select it from the Operating System drop down menu.
     
  2. In the Drivers section of Drivers & Downloads, download and install the MX920 Series MP Driver (this includes the Canon IJ Scan Utility).



    Select the Select button to the right of the MP Drivers.  Then, select Download.  If you're prompted to Run or Save the file, save it to your computer.

     The XPS driver isn't required.  If you wish to install it, you must have the MP Drivers installed first.
     
  3. After you download the MP Drivers, double-click the file to open it.



     If you receive a prompt asking for permission to run the file after you double-click it, select Yes or Continue, depending on what browser you're using. 
     
  4. When the driver installer begins, select Next.


     
  5. Select your place of residence.  Then, select Next.


     
  6. Read through the License Agreement.  Select Yes to continue.  If you select No, the drivers will not be installed.



    The driver installation will start. This may take a few minutes.


     
  7. When the Connection method window appears, select Use the printer with wireless LAN connection.  Then, select Next.



    The installer will search for the printer on the network. This may take a few minutes. 


     
  8. The Detected Printers List window appears.  Select your printer in the window.  Then, select Next.



     If your printer isn't detected, select here.

    The driver installation will continue. This may take a few minutes. 


     
  9. The Setup Completion window appears.  Select Complete to close the installer.


     
You can now print and scan from your Windows PC.

If your printer isn't detected

If your printer isn't detected during the installation process, check these items:
  • Make sure that your computer and your printer are connected to the same network.
  • Select the appropriate Network icon in the system tray
    • Windows XP looks like this 
    • Windows Vista looks like this 
    • Windows 7/8/8.1/10 look like this 
  1. Note the SSID name (Network name).

If your PC isn't on the correct network, select your network and connect the PC to it.

 If you have a firewall enabled, you may need to temporarily disable the firewall so that the computer can find the printer during the installation.  If you don't want to disable your firewall, there are exceptions that need to be added to the firewall.
