Description

Face Detection  XF705

Solution

Face Detection
When the face detection function is activated, the camcorder will detect people’s faces. When there are a number of people in the picture, one person will be determined to be the main subject but you have the option to select a different person as the main subject. The camcorder will keep tracking the main subject even when it moves.
You can use face detection with one of the autofocus functions to let the camcorder focus on the main subject automatically (Face AF). You can also combine face detection with the Dual Pixel Focus Guide functionto help you focus on the main subject manually.

1 Select [Face Det. & Tracking].

2 Select [On] and then press SET.
3 Select [Face AF].

4 Select the desired option and then press SET.
  •  appears on the left of the screen.
5 Point the camcorder at the subject.
  • All detected faces will have a face detection frame. The main subject will be indicated with a face detection frame with small arrows (white in AF mode, gray in MF mode).
  • During continuous AF, the camcorder will keep focusing on the main subject’s face.
  • If you use face detection together with the tracking function, the camcorder will be able to track the selected main subject more reliably.
  • Push the joystick left/right to select a different person as the main subject. You can also touch another person on the LCD screen to use the tracking function. This is better if you want to track a subject when it is difficult to keep seeing their face. When you touch a subject on the LCD, the face detection frame will change to a white double frame

Options
[Face Priority]: When there is no face detected, the camcorder focuses automatically according to the AF mode currently selected.
[Face Only]: When there is no face detected, the camcorder locks the focus.

NOTES
  • In certain cases, faces may not be detected correctly. Typical examples include:
- Faces extremely small, large, dark or bright in relation to the overall picture.
- Faces that are turned to the side, at a diagonal, partially hidden or upside-down.
  • Face detection cannot be used in the following cases:
- When the shutter speed used is slower than 1/30 (59.94 Hz recordings)* or 1/25 (50.00 Hz recordings).
  • Slower than 1/24 when the frame rate is set to 23.98P.
- When slow motion recording is activated.
- When  is set to [Digital 300x] and the zoom ratio exceeds 60x.
- When  is set to [Tele-converter 6.0x].
- When infrared recording is activated.
  • The camcorder may mistakenly detect the faces of non-human subjects. In such case, turn face detection off.
  • If you set an assignable button to [Face Det. and Tracking], you can press the button to turn the function on and off. If you set an assignable button to [Face AF], you can press the button to toggle between the face detection options
