Synchronizing with an External Device
Using Genlock synchronization, you can synchronize this camcorder’s video signal to that of an external video device. Similarly, using an external time code signal, you can synchronize this camcorder’s time code to the external signal. Using the external time code signal to synchronize multiple cameras/camcorders allows you to set up a multi-camera recording. You can also output the time code signal from this camcorder to achieve the same result. If you output the time code from the SDI terminal to an editing device, the editor can create video with the same time code.

Connecting an External Device
When synchronizing the camcorder to an external signal*, use the G-LOCK/SYNC terminal. When synchronizing a time code signal, use the TIME CODE terminal. Be sure to set the respective terminal to input or output in advance.
Connect the external device to the camcorder as shown in the following diagram. 
* As reference video signal (input signal) for Genlock synchronization, you can use an analog blackburst or tri-level signal.



Reference Video Signal Input (Genlock Synchronization)
When a reference sync signal (analog blackburst or tri-level signal) is input through the G-LOCK/SYNC terminal, the phases of the camcorder’s V and H sync will automatically be synchronized to it. The phase difference between the external Genlock signal and the camcorder is initially set to 0. The H phase can be adjusted within the range of approximately ±0.4 H.

Operating modes:

1 Select [G-LOCK/SYNC Term.].

2 Select [Genlock Input] and then press SET.
3 Select [Genlock Adjustment].

4 Select [Change] and then press SET.
  • The adjustment value setting screen appears with an orange selection frame on the leftmost digit.
  • To reset the adjustment value to [000], select [Reset] instead.
5 Push the joystick up/down to select the first digit and press SET to move to the next.
  • Change the rest of the digits in the same way to adjust the H phase to the desired level (–1023 to 1023).
  • Press the CANCEL button to return to the previous screen without setting the Genlock adjustment value.
6 Select [Set] and then press SET.

NOTES
  • When a suitable Genlock signal is input, the Genlock synchronization stabilizes after approximately 10 seconds.
  • When a suitable Genlock signal is detected, the icon will flash at the top right of the screen. When the camcorder locks on the external Genlock signal, the icon will stay on.
  • If the external Genlock signal is incorrect, the synchronization may not be stable. In such case, the recorded time code may be incorrect.

Time Code Signal Input
An external SMPTE-standard LTC timing signal received from the TIME CODE terminal will be recorded as the time code. The user bit of the external timing signal can also be recorded with the clips. Before connecting the device, set the TIME CODE terminal to input. Also, you must set the running mode of the time code to [Free Run]

Operating modes: 

1 Select [TC In/Out].

2 Select [In] and then press SET.

Recording the User Bit of an External Signal
The user bit of an external time code signal can also be recorded with clips along with the time code itself.
1 Select [User Bit Recording Mode].

2 Select [External] and then press SET.

NOTES
  • When the frame rate is set to 23.98P, use a 24-frame time code signal as input signal. When it is set to 25.00P, 50.00i or 50.00P, use a 25-frame time code signal. For other frame rates, use a 30-Frame time code signal.
  • When a suitable time code signal is received, the camcorder’s own time code will be synchronized to it and the synchronization will be maintained even if you disconnect the cable from the TIME CODE terminal.
  • If the external time code signal is incorrect or there is no input signal, the internal time code (as set with the menu settings in the menu page) will be recorded instead.
  • While a time code signal is being received, the external time code’s drop-frame bit will be used.
  • Performing any of the following actions while the cable is not connected will cause the synchronization to be disrupted; the correct time code will be restored once you reconnect the cable.
- Turning the camcorder off/on
- Changing the operating mode to  mode 
- Changing the video configuration

Reference Video Signal Output
After changing the G-LOCK/SYNC terminal’s function to [HD Sync Output], you can output the camcorder’s
video signal as a reference sync signal (HD tri-level signal) to synchronize an external device to this camcorder.
The reference video signal output will have the same frequency as the signal output from the SDI terminal.

Operating modes: 

1 Select [G-LOCK/SYNC Term.].

2 Select [HD Sync Output] and then press SET.
3 If necessary, you can change the scan mode (P or PsF) with the setting.

Time Code Signal Output
The time code will be output from the TIME CODE terminal as an SMPTE-standard LTC timing signal. Before connecting the device, set to change the TIME CODE terminal to output
The embedded time code will be output also from the SDI terminal. Additionally, you can set > to [On], to output the embedded time code also from the HDMI OUT terminal.

NOTES
• About the user bit output: In mode, the user bit set by the user will be output. In mode,
the user bit will be output if it was recorded with the clip being played back.
• The time code and user bit will not be output when slow motion recording is activated.
• In mode, the time code and user bit will be output only from the SDI terminal.
