Learn how to add a new media type to the imagePROGRAF PRO-1000 with a Mac™.

Solution

Adding Premium Fine Art Smooth paper to the PRO-1000 consists of first updating the media information in the printer using the Media Configuration Tool, then updating the media information in the printer driver.

The example shows the steps used on Mac running macOS 10.14.2. Photoshop CC 2018 was used to display various media types and ICC profiles.

  1. Media types available for use before Premium Fine Art Smooth paper.

  2. Start Media Configuration Tool. Verify that Premium Fine Art Smooth is not listed in 'Fine Art Papers' and click the Add Media Information icon.

  3. Choose how to acquire the media Information (connect to the Internet or specify a media information file ) and click Acquire.

  4. In the list of papers, select Fine Art Smooth / Premium Fine Art Smooth and click Next.

    The Media Configuration Tool will search for printers.

  5. Select the printer to be used and click Execute.

    Click Yes on the Warning message,

  6. The media information on the printer will be updated. This may take several minutes.

    After this process has finished, click OK.

  7. Premium Fine Art Smooth will now be listed with the Fine Art Papers.

    Next, the media information in the printer driver will need to be updated. Proceed to the next step.

  8. Open the IJ Printer Utility. From the pop-up menu, select Media Information.

  9. Click Update Media Information.

    Click OK.

    The media information of the printer will be checked.

  10. Click Update.

    You will be prompted to enter your computer's password.  Enter the password, then click Install Helper.

    The media information on the printer will be acquired.  This may take a few moments.

    After the media information of the driver has been updated, click OK.

  11. The paper has been added to the driver. It can now be selected for use in various applications.
