Description

If your Mac does not have a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive, this article will help you in setting up the computer to work with your PIXMA MX922 via ethernet.

Solution

If your Mac does not have a DVD-ROM or CD-ROM drive, you can download drivers and software from the Canon USA website to set up the computer to work with your PIXMA MX922 via ethernet.  Follow the steps below to connect your printer to a wired LAN.  Then, you will need to download the necessary drivers and software for your Mac to work with the printer.

 Note
  • If your PIXMA MX922 is already connected to your network, click here for instructions on downloading and installing the necessary software to get your Mac to communicate with the printer.

  1. Connect an ethernet cable to the printer and your router.

  2. Press the Menu button on the printer.

  3. Use the arrow keys to highlight Setup.  Then, press OK.

  4. Use the arrows to select Device settings.  Press OK.

  5. Use the arrows to select LAN settings.  Press OK.

  6. Change wireless/wired will be highlighted.  Press OK.

  7. Use the arrows to select Wired LAN active.  Press OK.

The printer will process for a few moments.

The printer will then communicate across the network via ethernet.

Downloading and Installing the Software

After your printer has been connected to the network, the drivers and software for the Mac need to be downloaded and installed.  Follow the steps below to download and install the necessary drivers and software.

  1. Click here to go to the PIXMA MX922 support page.  The version of macOS installed on your computer will be automatically detected.  If the website does not detect which version is installed on your computer, select it from the Operating System drop down menu.

  2. In the Drivers section of Drivers & Downloads, you will need to download and install the CUPS printer driver, the MX920 series scanner driver (this includes the Canon IJ Scan Utility), and the ICA driver.

Click the Select button to the right of each of the drivers.  Then, click Download.

  3. After downloading the drivers, click the Software tab under Drivers & Downloads.  In the Software section, click the Select button to the right of the Canon IJ Network Tool.

    Download the IJ Network Tool.

  4. After all of these files have been downloaded, open them.  A window will appear with a package file.

Double click the package file to open it.

Note:  Depending on your computer's security settings, you may receive a message telling you that you cannot open the file because it was not downloaded from the App Store.  If you receive such a message, you can open the file by control clicking or right-clicking on the package file and clicking Open.

  5. Follow all on-screen instructions to install the file that you opened.  Do this for each file that you downloaded.

  6. Click the Apple menu and click System Preferences.  Then, click Print & Fax / Print & Scan / Printers & Scanners (the name will vary depending on which version of the Mac OS you are running on your computer).

  7. Click the + towards the lower left part of the window.  If a list of printers appears directly under the + after it has been clicked, click Add printer or scanner...

  8. In the Add window, wait a few moments and a listing for the MX922 will appear as a Canon IJ Network device.  Click this to highlight it.  Then, for the Use drop down menu, make sure that Canon MX920 series is selected.  Click Add to add the printer to your printer list.

The printer is now ready for use from your Mac.
