Description

The camera cannot be connected with a computer/The computer does not recognize the camera

Solution

If the camera cannot be connected to a computer, it may be due to one the following reasons. Please check the following items in the order they appear to find the cause of the problem.

1. A Wi-Fi connection is established

Other devices, such as computers, cannot be used with the camera by connecting them with an interface cable while the camera is connected to devices via Wi-Fi. Terminate the Wi-Fi connection before connecting the interface cable.

2. The camera is not properly connected to the computer with the USB cable

The computer should recognize the camera once the USB cable is changed and reconnected to the computer.
Use a cable that has a Micro-B plug for the camera.
A genuine Canon accessory is also available (Interface Cable IFC-600PCU).

3. The camera is not recognized by EOS Utility

If the camera is not recognized by EOS Utility, refer to the following information for possible solutions.
  • The supported software version may differ depending on the camera you use and the operating system installed on the computer. (Version 3.10.20 or later is supported.)
  • When using a camera or computer that differs from the model used initially, install the supported version of EOS Utility. EOS Utility Updater for a variety of cameras/operating systems can be downloaded from the Canon Web site.
  • For details on system requirements that are compatible with the application, refer to the Related information at the bottom of this page.
  • EOS Utility and the camera may not communicate normally with a cable other than the EOS DIGITAL camera-dedicated Canon interface cable. Connect your camera and computer directly with the interface cable. Do not connect the camera via a hub; doing so may prevent EOS Utility and your camera from communicating normally.
  • If there is insufficient charge left in the camera battery, the camera cannot communicate with EOS Utility. In this case, replace the battery with a charged one, use the DC Coupler DR-E18 and AC Adapter AC-E6N (each sold separately). Your computer does not supply power to the camera through the interface cable.
NOTE
  • AC Adapter Kit ACK-E18 can also be used.

4. CameraWindow is being used

Your camera does not support CameraWindow. If you are using CameraWindow, install and use the EOS Utility application.
NOTE
  • If your computer does not meet the system requirements for EOS Utility, you can import images using a card slot on the computer or a commercially available card reader. For the procedures for importing images using a card reader or a card slot on a computer, refer to the Related information at the bottom of this page.

5. The camera is not recognized by Windows OS

If the above items do not apply to your situation, the camera may not have been recognized by your computer's OS. For more information on OS-related issues, refer to the Related information below.
