Description

Shooting the subject at the largest zoom factor (PowerShot G5 X Mark II)

Solution

If you cannot shoot the subject up close with the optical zoom, please consider the following.
IMPORTANT
  • Digital zoom is not available when capturing images in RAW format. For details, refer to "Related information" section at the end of the page.
  • Available setting items and options vary by shooting mode.

Getting Started

When distant subjects are too far away to enlarge using the optical zoom, use digital zoom for up to about 20x enlargement.

Using the Digital Zoom

IMPORTANT
  • The instructions in this section apply to a camera with the shooting mode set to [ : AUTO Mode ].

1. Turn the camera on.

2. Press the button.

3. Move the zoom lever to choose the [ ] tab.

4. Press the / buttons to choose the [ [ ] tab.

5. Press the / buttons to choose [ Digital zoom ], then press button.

6. Press the / buttons to choose [ Standard ], then press button.

7. Press the button.

8. Move the zoom lever toward .
  • Press and hold the lever.
  • Zooming stops at the largest possible zoom factor (before the image becomes noticeably grainy), which is then indicated on the screen.

9. Press toward again.
  • The camera zooms in even closer on the subject.
  • ( ) is the current zoom factor.

IMPORTANT
  • Using the zoom lever will show the current position on the zoom bar. The zoom bar is color-coded to indicate the zoom range.
- White range: optical zoom range where the image will not appear grainy.
- Yellow range: digital zoom range where the image is not noticeably grainy (ZoomPlus).
- Blue range: digital zoom range where the image will appear grainy.
  • No blue range is displayed under certain pixel count settings, and you can zoom in to the maximum level in one zoom operation.
  • To deactivate digital zoom, choose [ Digital zoom ] -> [ Off ].

Using the Digital Tele-converter

With the [ Digital Tele-Converter ] setting, the focal length of the lens can be increased by approximately 1.6x or 2.0x. This can reduce camera shake because the shutter speed is faster than it would be if you zoomed (including using digital zoom) in to the same zoom factor.
IMPORTANT
  • The instructions in this section apply to a camera with the shooting mode set to [ : Program AE ].

1. Turn the camera on.

2. Press the button.

3. Move the zoom lever to choose the [ ] tab.

4. Press the / buttons to choose the [ [ ] tab.

5. Press the / buttons to choose [ Digital zoom ], then press button.

6. Press the / buttons to choose [ 1.6x ] or [ 2.0x ] as the setting for the [ Digital Zoom ], then press button.

NOTE
  • The shutter speed at maximum telephoto (when you move the zoom lever all the way toward ) may match the speed when zooming in to enlarge subjects with digital zoom.
