Printing / Scanning with Wireless Direct
You can connect devices (e.g. computer, smartphone, or tablet) to the printer by two methods below.
This article describes Wireless Direct, which allows you to print or scan by connecting the devices to the printer directly.
If you use the printer via Wireless Direct from a mobile device, your device may use mobile data to print or scan.
Follow the procedure below to use Wireless Direct.

Prepare the printer.

Prepare a device to connect to the printer.

Print / Scan with the printer.
You can connect up to 5 devices to the printer at the same time.
Check the usage restrictions and switch the printer to the Wireless Direct.
Changing Printer Setting to Use Wireless Direct

Make sure that the printer is turned on.

Press the Setup
button.
The Setup menu screen is displayed.

Select Device settings and then press the OK button.

Select LAN settings and then press the OK button.

Select Wireless Direct and then press the OK button.
-
Select Switch WL Direct and then press the OK button.
-
Select Yes and then press the OK button.
When the setting is completed, the Wireless router info screen is displayed.

Select Done and then press the OK button.
Wireless Direct is enabled and a device can be connected to the printer wirelessly.
You can check the following on the Wireless router info screen. Use the
buttons to select an item you want to check and then press the OK button.

Network name(SSID): Identifier

Security protocol: Security setting and password

WL Direct dev. name: Printer name displayed on a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device
The password is required when connecting a device to the printer. Depending on the device you are using, no password is required.
When you connect a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device to the printer, select the printer name from your device.

Changing Settings of a Device and Connecting It to the Printer

Turn on the Wi-Fi function on your device.
Enable "Wi-Fi" on your device's "Setting" menu.
For more on turning on Wi-Fi function, see your device's instruction manual.

Select "DIRECT-XXXX-G7000series" ("X" represents alphanumeric characters) from list displayed on your device.
If "DIRECT-XXXX-G7000series" does not appear on the list, Wireless Direct is not enabled. See how to enable it here.

Enter the password when prompted.
Your device is connected to the printer.
You can check the password by printing the network settings from the printer.
Depending on the device you are using, no password is required.
If your Wi-Fi Direct compatible device is set to prioritize using Wi-Fi Direct and it is connecting to the printer, the printer displays a confirmation screen asking if you allow the device to connect to the printer. Make sure the name on the LCD is the same as that of your wireless communication device and select Yes and press the OK button.
Printing / Scanning with Wireless Direct
After connecting a device and the printer, start printing / scanning from the application of your device.

You can print / scan from your smartphone or tablet by installing Canon PRINT Inkjet / SELPHY. Download it from App Store and Google Play.
Changing Wireless Direct Setting
Change the settings for the Wireless Direct following the procedure below.

Make sure that the printer is turned on.

Press the Setup
button.
The Setup menu screen is displayed.

Select Device settings and then press the OK button.

Select LAN settings and then press the OK button.

Select Wireless Direct and then press the OK button.
-
Select a setting item and then press the OK button.

Change name (SSID)
-
Updates the identifier (SSID) for Wireless Direct or the printer name displayed on a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device.

Manual setup
-
Select Manual setup and then press the OK button.

Enter new printer name and then press the OK button.

Confirm your entries and press the OK button.

Auto update
-
Select Auto update and then press the OK button.

Select Yes and then press the OK button.

Select Done and then press the OK button.
If you select Network name(SSID) and press the OK button, you can check the updated identifier (SSID).

Change password

Manual setup
-
Select Manual setup and then press the OK button.

Enter the new password and then press the OK button.

Auto update

Select Auto update and then press the OK button.

Select Yes and then press the OK button.

Select Done and then press the OK button.
If you select Security protocol instead of Done, you can check the updated password.

Confirm request

To display the confirmation screen when a Wi-Fi Direct compatible device is connecting to the printer, select Yes and press the OK button.
To prevent an unauthorized access, we recommend you should select the setting to display the confirmation screen.
If you change the Wireless Direct setting of the printer, also change the wireless router setting of the device.
