Description

This article provides information regarding printing on T-Shirt transfer paper from Windows PCs and Macs.

Solution

To print on T-Shirt transfer paper, follow the steps below.
  1. Load the T-Shirt transfer paper into your printer.  If your printer has a rear tray, load the paper in there.  For printers that do not have a rear tray, load it into the cassette.  If your printer has two cassettes (for example, the PIXMA MX922 or the PIXMA MG7720), load it into the lower cassette.  Make sure that the side you are printing on is face down when loading into the cassette.  For printers with a rear tray, the side you are printing on will be face up.

  2. Open the image that you want to print.

  3. Begin the printing process.  Typically, this is done by clicking the File menu and then clicking Print....

  4. You will need to specify that you are printing on T-Shirt transfer paper.  The steps will vary based on whether you are using Windows or macOS.  Also, for macOS, the steps will vary depending on if you are using a CUPS printer driver or an AirPrint driver.  After specifying that you are printing on T-Shirt transfer paper, proceed with printing.

Windows

To specify the type of paper you are printing on, you will need to open the Printing Preferences dialog box.  You can open this through the Start menu or through the program you are printing from.

Open the Printer Preferences Dialog Box through the Start Menu

  1. If you are using Windows 10, from the Desktop, select the Start menu -> Settings -> Devices and Printers.

  2. If you are using Windows 8.1 / 8, from the Desktop charms, select Settings -> Control Panel -> Hardware and Sound -> Devices and Printers.

  3. If you are using Windows 7, select the Start menu -> Devices and Printers.

  4. Right-click your model name icon and then select Printing Preferences from the displayed menu.
The Printing Preferences dialog box opens.

Open the Printer Preferences Dialog Box through the Application

  1. For most applications, select Print on the File menu to open the Print dialog box.

  2. Select your model name and click Preferences (or Properties).

The Printing Preferences dialog box opens.

When the Printing Preferences dialog box opens, you can either specify T-Shirt Transfers in the Media Type drop down menu in the Quick Setup tab:

Or, you can specify T-Shirt Transfers in the Media Type drop down menu in the Main tab:

If you have opened the Printing Preferences window through the application you are printing from, click OK after specifying T-Shirt Transfers.  If you have opened the Printing Preferences window through the Start menu, click Apply, then click OK.

Please note that if you have opened the Printing Preferences window through the Start menu, all applications will be set to print on T-Shirt Transfers.  If you have opened the Printing Preferences window through the application you are printing from, the application will continue to print on T-Shirt Transfers until you either specify a different media type, or until you close and re-open the application.

macOS

After opening the Print dialog, the steps to specify your media type will vary depending on if you are using a printer with a CUPS printer driver, or if you are using an AirPrint driver.

CUPS printer driver

Select Quality & Media from the pop-up menu.  Then, select T-Shirt Transfers in the Media Type pop-up menu.

The Print Quality is automatically set to High.

AirPrint

Select Media & Quality from the pop-up menu.  The options available in the Media Type pop-up menu will vary depending on the printer model you have.  Some models will list T-Shirt Transfers as a media type.  Others will not have that as an option.  If T-Shirt Transfers is listed as a media type, select it.  Otherwise, select Auto Select from the Media Type pop-up menu.  You will then need to select Best on the Quality slider.

After specifying the media type and quality, select Layout from the pop-up menu.  Then, place a check in the box for Flip horizontally.  This will mirror the image.
