Learn how to connect your PIXMA MG6220 to a wireless network by manually entering in your network password.

Solution

You can use the operation panel of your PIXMA MG6220 to connect to a wireless network by manually entering in your network password. This is known as the Standard setup method. Follow the steps below to use this method to connect the printer to your wireless network.

  1. With the printer powered on, touch the HOME button.

  2. Use the up Image shows up arrow or down Image shows down arrow arrows until the Setup Image shows Setup icon icon appears. Then, touch the Function Image shows Function button button under Setup.

  3. Use the left Image shows left arrow or right Image shows right arrow arrows to select Wireless LAN setup. touch OK.

  4. The printer will search for nearby wireless routers. If you see a screen instructing you to touch the WPS button on the access point, touch the Stop button on the printer. If not, proceed to the next step.

  5. Standard setup will be selected. touch OK. The printer will search for nearby wireless networks.

  6. Use the up Image shows up arrow or down Image shows down arrow arrows to select your wireless network. touch OK when your network is highlighted.

  7. On the Enter passphrase screen, touch OK. The character entry screen appears.

  8. To enter your network password

    Touch the center Function button (A) to change character sets between uppercase letters, lowercase letters, and numbers / symbols.
    Use the 
    Arrows buttons (B) to select a character from the on-screen keyboard, then touch the OK button to enter it.
    Entered characters appear in the upper section (C) of the on-screen keyboard.
    To insert a space, select Space on the on-screen keyboard and touch the OK button.
    To insert characters, use the 
    Image shows up arrow or Image shows down arrow buttons to move the cursor into the upper section (C) of the on-screen keyboard. Then, move the cursor to the character on the right of the target position using the Image shows left arrow or Image shows right arrow button, then enter characters.
    To delete a character, use the Image shows up arrow or Image shows down arrow buttons to move the cursor into the upper section (C) of the on-screen keyboard. Then, touch the right Function button (E). You will return to the Enter passphrase screen.

  9. Touch the Function button under End setup (D in the above image).

  10. The printer will attempt to connect to the wireless network. When Connected to the access point. appears, touch OK.

If the printer fails to connect to the wireless network, verify that your passphrase is properly entered (passphrases are case sensitive). Make any corrections needed.
If the printer still fails to connect, you may need to power cycle the printer and router and then try to connect again.

After the printer has been connected to your wireless network, you will need to install the drivers and software if you wish to use the printer with a computer.
You can use the Setup CD that came with the printer, or you can download the drivers and software from the Canon website.

 If you are using a Mac:
  • You'll need to go to the Canon website and download the CUPS printer driver and the scanner driver. It's also recommended that you download MP Navigator EX for scanning.

  • After installing the CUPS printer driver and the scanner driver, you'll need to add the printer to the Printer List.
