If print quality is poor (incorrect colors, streaked prints, etc.), a print head cleaning may help resolve the issue.

Cleaning the Print Head

The print head cleaning function allows you to clear up clogged print head nozzles. Perform print head cleaning if printing results are not satisfactory or if a specific color fails to print, even though there is enough ink.

  1. Open the Canon IJ Printer Assistant Tool.

  2. Select Cleaning.

Select Cleaning (outlined in red) in the IJ Printer Assistant Tool

When the Print Head Cleaning dialog box is displayed, select the ink group for performing print head cleaning.

Select the ink group to clean

If you click Initial Check Items, the items that need to be confirmed before print head cleaning starts will be displayed.

  3. Check that the printer is on and then select Start.

  4. Select OK when the confirmation message is displayed.
The Nozzle Check dialog box will open.

  5. To check whether the print quality has improved, click Print Check Pattern. To cancel the check process, click Cancel.
If cleaning the head once does not resolve the print head problem, clean it once more.

Cleaning consumes a small amount of ink.

Cleaning the print head frequently will rapidly deplete your printer's ink supply. Perform a print head cleaning only when necessary.

If two print head cleanings don't improve the print quality, try cleaning the print head deeply.
