Description

Learn how to clean the print head of the MAXIFY GX7020. If you're experiencing poor print quality (banded / streaked prints, incorrect colors, blank pages), a print head cleaning may help resolve the problem.

Solution

Cleaning the Print Head

Clean the print head if lines are missing or if horizontal streaks are present in the printed nozzle check pattern. Cleaning unclogs the nozzles and restores the print head condition. Cleaning the print head consumes ink, so clean the print head only when necessary.

When performing the print head cleaning, check the free space in the maintenance cartridge. If there isn't enough free space, replace the maintenance cartridge. In the case of shortage of free space in the maintenance cartridge, a message is displayed and the cleaning can't be performed.

You will need a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper.

  1. Make sure that the printer is powered on.

  2. Load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in cassette 1.

  3. Select (Setup) on the HOME screen.

  4. Select Maintenance.

  5. Select Cleaning.

    Select Cleaning (outlined in red)

    The confirmation screen will appear.

  6. Select Yes.

The printer starts cleaning the print head.

Don't perform any other operations until the printer completes the cleaning of the print head. This takes about 1 to 2 minutes.

The pattern print confirmation screen will appear.

  7. Select Yes.

The nozzle check pattern will be printed.

  8. Examine the nozzle check pattern.

If the problem isn't resolved after cleaning the print head twice, clean the print head deeply.

Deep Print Head Cleaning

If print quality does not improve by the standard cleaning of the print head, clean the print head deeply. Cleaning the print head deeply consumes more ink than the standard cleaning of the print head, so clean the print head deeply only when necessary.

When performing the print head cleaning, check the free space in the maintenance cartridge. If there isn't enough free space, replace the maintenance cartridge. In the case of shortage of free space in the maintenance cartridge, a message is displayed and the cleaning can't be performed.
