Solution

Cleaning Platen and Document Cover

Be sure to turn off the power and unplug the power cord before cleaning the printer.

  • The power can't be turned off while the printer is sending or receiving a fax, or when unsent faxes are stored in the printer's memory. Make sure the printer has finished sending or receiving faxes before turning it off.

  • Remember that faxes can't be sent or received while the printer is off.

  • Unplugging the printer will erase all documents in the printer's memory. Send faxes, print documents, save jobs to a USB flash drive, or forward to the shared folder on the computer as needed before unplugging the printer.

Don't use tissue paper, paper towels, rough-textured cloth, or similar materials for cleaning so as not to scratch the surface. Paper tissue powder or fine threads may remain inside the printer and cause problems such as print head blockage and poor printing results.

Never use volatile liquids such as thinners, benzine, acetone, or any other chemical cleaner to clean the printer, as this may cause a malfunction or damage the surface of the printer.

Use a soft, dry cloth that is clean and lint-free.

Wipe away any smudges or dust on the glass surfaces of the platen glass and bottom of the document cover (A, B, and C), and on the parts that come into contact with these surfaces (D, E, and F).

Wipe the glass surfaces carefully, leaving no residue.

Areas of the printer to clean

The inner side of the document cover (D) is easily damaged, so wipe it gently.

Any glue, ink, correction fluid, or other substances on the glass surface (B and C) may cause black streaks in scanned images. Gently wipe away any of these substances on the glass.
