You can use a USB cable to set up your printer to work wirelessly.

Solution

Wireless Setup - Mac OS X Computers

To be able to use the printer to print or scan wirelessly on a Mac, the printer must first be connected to the wireless network. Then, applications need to be installed on the computer. 

The instructions /  screenshots  below show an alternative setup method whereby a USB cable is connected temporarily to the printer and computer to set up the wireless connection

To begin the setup, first download the setup file

Get the Setup File

Read the information taking note of the information concerning warning messages that may appear during setup then click the "Download" button.

  1. Select Next on the first screen.

  2. Enter your computer User Name and Password then select Install Helper.

  3. Select Start Setup

  4. On the Before You Continue message, select Next.

    The installer will acquire information on the latest software for the printer. This may take several minutes.

  5. Select Yes on the License Agreement.

  6. Select Agree or Do not agree.

    If you select Do not agree, the following message will appear. Select OK to proceed.

    After processing for a few moments, the installer will check the status of the printer.

  7. Select Wi-Fi Connection on the Select Connection Method screen, then Select Next to proceed.

  8. With the printer powered on, Select Next on Check Power.

    The installer will search for the printer on the network.

  9. Select Next on the Connecting Printer to Network screen.

  10. On the Preparing Printer screen, Select Next without pressing and holding the Wireless Connect button on the printer.

  11. On the Easy Wireless Connect screen, select Alternative Methods.

  12. On the Wi-Fi Settings screen, select Set up Wi-Fi connection using a USB cable, then click Next.

  13. Make sure the printer is powered on. Connect the printer to the computer with a USB cable.

  14. The installer will process for a few moments.

    Performing setup

    You'll be asked to provide permission for the installer to access the keychain. Click Allow.

  15. On the Connection Completed screen, select Next.

     If the printer is not detected, make sure that your computer has reconnected to your wireless network. Also, temporarily disable any firewall software if possible. If you are connected to a VPN (Virtual Private Network), temporarily disconnect from the VPN and try again.

  16. Disconnect the USB cable. Select Next

  17. Select Add Printer on the Add Printer screen.

    Click Add Printer (outlined in red)

  18. On the Add screen, select the printer listing with Bonjour Multifunction listed in the Kind column.  Select AirPrint or Secure AirPrint in the Use: dropdown list, then click Add.

  19. Select Next on the Add Printer screen.

  20. Select Next.

  21. Select Continue online.

After this process has finished, open Printers & Scanners in System Preferences. You'll have two listings for your printer and two for the fax. Select the first listing for the printer, then click the minus sign below the list to delete the printer.

Click Delete Printer.

Do the same for the fax.

Select the fax and click the minus sign under the printer list

Failure to do this may result in communication errors when attempting to print.
