This article explains what to do if you see the error "You do not have permission to open the application “Canon IJScanner###" when scanning after installing the ICA driver for your scanner or multifunction printer on macOS 11.5.

Solution

Before Starting

 If your hard drive or solid state drive has a name other than Macintosh HD, substitute that in place of Macintosh HD in these instructions.

This article assumes that the Macintosh HD icon appears on your desktop. If this icon is not on your desktop, select Preferences from the Finder menu:

Place a check in the box for Hard disks.

If you don't want to have the Macintosh HD icon on your desktop, you can also find Macintosh HD by selecting Computer from the Go menu in Finder.

Troubleshooting Steps

Follow these steps to resolve the error.

  1. In the Finder, navigate to Macintosh HD / Library / Image Capture / Devices

  2. Control-click or right-click CanonIJScanner### (where ### represents alphanumeric characters), then select Open from the menu.

  3. Attempt scanning again.
