The PIXMA MX490 / MX492 can be configured to connect to a wireless network, act in Access Point Mode (this allows the printer to directly communicate with a wireless computer or mobile device without a router), or it can be disabled. Follow the steps below to choose which mode you want the wireless network adapter to use.
-
With the printer powered on, press the Setup
button.
-
In the Setup menu, press the
button until Device settings appears. Press the OK button.
-
In the Device setings menu, press the
button until LAN settings appears. Press the OK button.
-
Change LAN appears. Press the OK button.
-
Use the
buttons to select Wireless LAN, Access point mode, or LAN inactive. Press the OK button.
-
Wireless LAN enables the wireless network adapter. If the printer has never been connected to a wireless network, there are several options available for establishing a network connection:
-
Access point mode allows the printer to communicate with up to 5 devices (computers or mobile devices) wirelessly without using a router. If you select this mode and press the OK button Start setup will appear. Press the OK button again and Access Point mode will be enabled. Then, use the
buttons to select SSID and Security protocol. Selecting SSID will show the network name that the printer will broadcast. Security protocol will show the security type and the network key to enter in for a wireless device to communicate with the printer.
All three settings may be read once selected and can be printed out for reference using Print LAN details under LAN Settings.
These settings may be changed in AP Mode settings under LAN Settings.
-
LAN inactive disables the wireless network adapter in the printer.
