Windows 11 scanner USB connection issue

Description

It has been reported that a communication error occurs when the scanner is connected via USB in the Windows 11 environment. This issue is considered to be derived from the operating specifications of the OS.

Note: The below WIA countermeasures are also applicable to Windows 10 operating systems

Solution


It is recommended to update your operating system to Windows 11 Update 22H2, as the OS operating specifications have been modified

Please take the following measures to connect the scanner again:  

A. Restart the WIA service each time the error occurs.

Please follow the steps below to restart the WIA service.
  1. Right-click Win11 Start button on the bottom of the Windows 11 screen and select [Task Manager] from the menu.
    Right-clic on the Windows start button and select [Task Manager].
     
  2. Select [Services] from the menu on the top of the screen, and select [Open Services] on the bottom.
    Select [Services] and then [Open Services]
     
  3. Right-click on "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)" and select [Restart].
    Right-click on WIA and select [Restart]
     
  4. Restart WIA is completed. Ensure that the status for "Windows Image Acquisition(WIA)" is running.

B. If the error still occurs even after performing [A], disable the WIA service.

Please follow the steps below to disable the WIA service.
  1. Follow the same steps (1) and (2) as [A] and select [Open Services].
     
  2. Right-click on "Windows Image Acquisition (WIA)" and select [Properties].
    Right-click on
     
  3. Select [Disabled] from "Startup type:", [Stop] from "Service status:", and [OK].
    Select disabled.
     
  4. Ensure that the status for "Windows Image Acquisition(WIA)" is running.
