If the jammed paper tears and you cannot remove the paper either from the paper output slot or the feed slot, or if the jammed paper remains inside the printer, remove the paper following the instructions below.​

1. Press the printer's Stop button.

2. Turn off the printer and unplug it.

3. Open the scanning unit / cover.

   

    Don't touch the clear film (A), white belt (B), or tubes (C).

   

   If you soil or scratch this part by touching it with paper or your hand, it could damage the printer.

4. Check if the jammed paper is under the print head holder.

   If the jammed paper is under the print head holder, move the print head holder to the far right or left, whichever makes it easier to remove the paper.

   When moving the print head holder, hold the print head holder and slide it slowly to the far right or left.

   

5. Hold the jammed paper firmly in both hands.

   

   If the paper is rolled up, pull it out and grasp the edges of the paper.

   

6. Slowly pull out the paper so that it doesn't tear.

   Pull out the paper at an angle of about 45 degrees.

   

7. Make sure that all jammed paper is removed.

   If the paper tears when you pull it out, a bit of paper may remain in the printer. Check the following and remove any remaining paper.

   

   • Any paper left under the print head holder?

   • Any small bits of paper left in the printer?

   • Any paper left in the left and right empty spaces (D) in the printer?

8. Close the scanning unit by slightly lifting it, then gently lowering it.

   

9. Plug in the printer again and turn it back on.

10. Load paper or envelopes into the rear tray.

     Make sure you are using suitable paper and loading it correctly.

11. All jobs in the print queue are canceled. You'll need to print again.

     When reloading the paper, make sure you are using suitable paper and loading it correctly.

     If a paper jam message appears on your computer screen when you resume printing after removing all the jammed paper, there may be some paper still inside the printer. Check the printer again for any remaining bits of paper.

If the measures above don't solve the problem, the printer will require servicing.

There are two options currently available to you.

1. Warranty Service – If you are within the 1-year manufacturer’s warranty and have your proof of purchase you are entitled to service or replacement. If you have purchased a CarePak Canon extended warranty, you may be entitled to additional options.  Please create or log into your Canon Account to obtain service.
    
2. Out of Warranty – If you are outside of your warranty period, you may qualify for purchasing a replacement through the Canon Upgrade Program. Please contact our Sales group to inquire about your upgrade options at 866-443-8002.
    

 Don't tilt the printer when moving it since the ink may leak out.
