Clean the print head if lines are missing or if horizontal streaks are present in the printed nozzle check pattern. Cleaning unclogs the nozzles and restores the print head condition. Cleaning the print head consumes ink, so clean the print head only when necessary.
When performing the print head cleaning, check the free space in the maintenance cartridge. If there is not enough free space, replace it with a new maintenance cartridge. In the case of shortage of free space in the maintenance cartridge, a message is displayed and the cleaning cannot be performed.
You will need a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper.
- Make sure the printer is powered on.
- Load a sheet of A4 or Letter-sized plain paper in the cassette.
- Select (Setup) on the HOME screen.
The setup menu screen will appear.
- Select Maintenance.
The Maintenance screen will appear.
- Select Cleaning.
The confirmation screen will appear.
- Select Yes.
The printer starts cleaning the print head.
Do not perform any other operations until the printer completes the cleaning of the print head.
The pattern print confirmation screen will appear.
- Select Yes.
The nozzle check pattern will be printed.
- Examine the nozzle check pattern.
If the problem is not resolved after cleaning the print head twice, clean the print head deeply.
If print quality does not improve by the standard cleaning of the print head, clean the print head deeply. Cleaning the print head deeply consumes more ink than the standard cleaning of the print head, so clean the print head deeply only when necessary.
When performing the print head deep cleaning, check the free space in the maintenance cartridge. If there is not enough free space, replace it with a new maintenance cartridge. In the case of shortage of free space in the maintenance cartridge, a message is displayed and the cleaning cannot be performed.

The confirmation screen will appear.
- Select Yes.
The printer starts cleaning the print head deeply.
Do not perform any other operations until the printer completes the deep cleaning of the print head.
The pattern print confirmation screen will appear.
- Select Yes.
The nozzle check pattern will be printed.
- When the completion message appears, tap OK.
- Examine the nozzle check pattern.
If the problem is not resolved, turn off the power and clean the print head deeply again after 24 hours. Do not unplug the power cord when turning off the power.
Replace Ink in Print Head consumes a great amount of ink.
Frequent Replace Ink in Print Head can rapidly consume ink, so perform it only when necessary.
Before performing Replace Ink in Print Head, check the remaining ink level of all colors. If the remaining ink level is below the single dot (A), refill the ink tank of corresponding color.
When Replace Ink in Print Head, check the free space of the maintenance cartridge.
Replace Ink in Print Head consumes a lot of ink, and the consumed ink is discharged to the maintenance cartridge. If the free space is low, replace it with a new maintenance cartridge. If the available capacity of the maintenance cartridge is low, a message is displayed and Replace Ink in Print Head cannot be performed.
Perform Replace Ink in Print Head following the procedure below.
- Check that printer is turned on.
- Select (Setup) on the HOME screen.
The setup menu screen appears.
If User management settings is enabled, the user selection screen is displayed before the HOME screen is displayed.
- Select Maintenance.
- Select Replace Ink in Print Head.
- Check the displayed message and select OK.
- Check the displayed message and select Yes or No.
When the support code "5200" appears:
Select Yes and proceed to step 8.
In other Cases:
Select No and proceed to the next step.
- Check the displayed message and select Yes.
- Select All colors, Color or BK.
When the support code "5200" appears on step 6, select All colors.
In other cases, select the ink you want to use.
- Check the displayed message and select Yes.
- Check the displayed message and select Yes.
Replace Ink in Print Head starts.
Do not perform any operations while Replace Ink in Print Head is in progress.
