These instructions will help you install Canon’s Scan Utility on Windows. This utility lets you easily scan documents and photos using your Canon printer or scanner.

Step 1: Go to Canon USA Support

Go to the Canon USA Support page.

Enter your printer/scanner model in the search box.

When your model's name appears, click it.

Choose Software & Drivers.

Select your Windows version if it is not automatically detected.
Step 2: Download and Install the Drivers / Scan Utility

Scroll down until you locate the Print Driver and Scan Utility Installer or the Driver Setup Package for your model.
When you see them, click Download.

Once the download is complete, double-click the file to begin installation.
Learn where to find the file if you are unable to locate it.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install the drivers.

Connect your product via USB if prompted.
Step 3: Locate Scan Utility
When the installation is complete, Scan Utility can be found here:

Windows 10 / 11:
From the Start menu, select All Apps > Canon Utilities > Scan Utility.

Windows 8 / 8.1:
Use the Search charm to search for Scan Utility.

Windows 7 / Windows Vista / Windows XP:
From the Start menu, select All Programs > Canon Utilities > Scan Utility > Scan Utility.
If Scan Utility does not appear in these locations, look here in Windows File Explorer:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Canon\Scan Utility\SCANUTILLA.exe
Previously, the title of this program was IJ Scan Utility. If IJ Scan Utility is installed, it will be found here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Canon\IJ Scan Utility\SCANUTILITY.exe
Step 4: Perform a Test Scan

Place a document or photo face down on the scanner glass.

Open Scan Utility.

Click Auto, Photo, or Document and check the scan results.
Troubleshooting
- If Scan Utility did not install, uninstall the drivers for your product, then right-click on the file you downloaded in step 2 and select Run as administrator.
- If you receive an error message regarding administrator permissions when attempting to install the drivers, right-click on the file you downloaded in step 2 and select Run as administrator.
- If your product is not detected, make sure it is powered on and connected directly to your computer via USB. If you are using your product on a network, make sure your security software is not blocking ports used for communication.
