IJ Scan Utility is used for older printer and scanner models. Current models use IJ Scan Utility Lite. Learn how to download and run IJ Scan Utility Lite.
These instructions are for Mac® users. Learn how to download and run the IJ Scan Utility on a Windows PC.
Download the Scan Drivers and then the IJ Scan Utility
In order to scan, it is necessary to download and install the scan drivers and the IJ Scan Utility software. Follow these steps to obtain and install both downloads:

Go to the Canon USA Support page.
Model names differ by country. Only models for the U.S. will be listed.

Enter your product model in the search box. For this example, the PIXMA MX922 will be used.

Select your model when it appears in the drop-down list.

Select the Software & Drivers button.

Select Drivers for Type, then find the TWAIN driver or the ICA driver. The listed driver will vary based on your model.
For some models, such as the PIXMA MX722 and MX922, the IJ Scan Utility is included with the TWAIN driver.

Select Download to save the file to your computer.

Once the download is complete, double-click the downloaded file. A disk image will be placed on the desktop. Open this file, then open the .pkg (package) file to begin the driver installation.

Follow the prompts to complete installation.

After installing the appropriate driver, select Software for Type and find the IJ Scan Utility. The listed software will vary based on your model. Click Download.

After the download is complete, double-click the downloaded file. A Disk image will be placed on the desktop. Open this file, then open the .pkg (package) file to beign the driver installation.

Follow the prompts to complete installation.

To open the IJ Scan Utility, go to the Applications folder from Finder. Open the Canon Utilities folder, then the IJ Scan Utility folder. Double-click on IJ Scan Utility or IJ Scan Utility2.
