Another reason to slow down the start speed or turn off Error Correction Mode (ECM) is when a Public Switch Telephone Network (PSTN) fax, like the ones listed below, is connected to a Packet Switch phone line, also referred to as Internet Phone or Voice Over Internet Phone (VoIP).
