The task becomes one of anchoring or m apping a point on the image sensor linear transfer characteristic that defines a reference exposure point that will help ensure optimization of the overall cam era operational performance . Now that video must be further “prepped” in a manner that can help ensure that the extensive dynamic range created by the imaging system will be fully protected while being recorded – and also as it is transported over industry standardized interfaces. This is the primary role of the camera’s Optoelectronic Transfer Function (OETF).

In seeking the very highest performance for 2K / HD , the three full bandwidth RGB 4:4:4 componen ts are recorded at 12 -bit or 10 -bit at the v ery high data rates shown in Ta ble 4 . Variable Bit Rate ( VB R) is deployed in this mode because it more f lexibly and accurately encode s the video data , with fewer bits ass igned to less demanding segments of an image frame and more bits used in difficult -to-encode segments. The file wrapper is MXF.
