A ring USM (Ultrasonic Motor) provides silent AF and full-time manual focusing. As the lens length does not change during focusing, accessories such as Macro Ring Light at the front end of the lens, can be easily operated. Maximum magnification can be increased either 1.4 X or 2X by using Extender EF 1.4 X or EF 2X.
