Cleaning the Scanner Components Disconnect the power cord from the machine. Use hands to gently open the operation panel (it only opens partially). While holding the operation panel open, clean these components:

Turn OFF the power switch, wait 10 seconds, and turn the power switch ON again. If the problem is not solved, turn OFF the power switch, disconnect the power cord, and contact your local authorized Canon dealer or the Canon help line.

Clean the exterior of the machine and ventilation slots. 1. Turn OFF the power switch, and then disconnect the power cord. 2. Clean the exterior of the machine with a soft, well wrung out cloth dampened with water or a mild detergent that has been diluted with water.
