Installing Software on Your Computer This section provides installation procedure of drivers to use the Canon Color imageCLASS MF8170c as a local printer, fax and a local scanner (connected directly to your computer). Before you install the software, make sure you do the following:

MF Toolbox Settings
Scanner Settings [Grayscale] Scans document as a grayscale image (similar to a monochrome picture). [ Color ] Scans document as a color image . [Color (Magazine)] Scans document as a color image with the [Descreen] function set to [On].

[Newspaper (B&W)] To scan text and line drawings (black and white, 300 dpi). [Document (Grayscale)] To scan color image or text in monochrome. Especially appropriate, for scanning high-resolution monochrome image (300 dpi).

Changing Print Settings
The properties dialog box enables you to set up the printer configuration and configure the print settings for all Windows applications. The printing preferences dialog box enables you to specify the default settings for the printing options available when you print with the Canon Color imageCLASS MF8170c (only for Windows 2000/XP/Server 2003).

Reseat the toner cartridge(s)
Reseat the toner cartridge(s). Hold the grip on the toner cartridge and lift it straight up. Confirm the color of the label on the toner cartridge holder, then take out a toner cartridge of the same color from the protective bag. Open the protective bag with scissors, so as not to damage the cartridge.
